We have been fortunate indeed to have secured the services of the acclaimed Carlo Aonzo, virtuoso mandolinist from Savona, Italy, as our guest conductor for the week.  Carlo has been awarded many international awards and played extensively throughout Europe, USA and Japan.  This will be his first visit to Australia.  Carlo has run workshops throughout the USA and established the International Mandolin Accademia, where he runs week-long camps in Italy and Switzerland annually.  During the course of the festival week, Carlo will also be offering both individual and small group lessons to festival attendees.  (https://www.carloaonzo.com/ )

Our busy week will be filled with rehearsals, sectionals, workshops and a day out sightseeing the many features of Canberra.  An evening where we play pieces written by composer/bassist Rob Kay will pay tribute to our great friend Rob, member of WAMO, a great contributor to the FAME community and to the mandolin ensemble repertoire and mandolin world more widely.

All in all, it will be a full and fun week for all mandolin (and mandolin-family) and guitar players!  Further details on festival venues and events and the Festival Registration Form will be available shortly on a new ‘FAME Festival Canberra 2019’ website; your FAME reps will keep all our member orchestras informed.
